BEENEN is a Chicago-based denim and lifestyle brand, founded in 2025 by Lilly Frentzel. As the youngest of four girls, I learned early that clothes are never just clothes. In our house, they were currency, identity, and occasionally grounds for war. The most prized possessions weren’t phones or makeup, but keys to our closets - to keep certain sisters (no names) from “borrowing” favorite pieces. Let’s just say diplomacy was learned through missing sweaters long before it was learned in school.
But somewhere between the accusations and closet raids, something shifted. What started as light theft eventually turned into shared taste, shared style, and a mutual understanding that what we wear says something about who we are and where we’ve been. And yes, while swapping clothes is still one of our love languages, the occasional missing Jenni Kayne sweater could absolutely still draw blood.
Our Angel
At BEENEN, what you see on the outside is only part of the story. Every garment we create carries a small angel stitched inside the left chest pocket, hidden from view, but always with you.
This tradition is deeply personal. Though our family is made up of four sisters, there has always been one more person with us in spirit, and my parents made sure we never forgot. With every Frentzel family holiday card sent out each year, an angel appeared in the top right corner of the picture. It served as a quiet reminder that someone was and always had been watching over us.
That is why every BEENEN garment carries that hidden angel inside. It is not there to be noticed, but to serve as a symbol of love, memory, and the comfort of knowing you are never truly alone. A subtle but powerful promise that you are supported, guided, and connected, no matter where you go or what you face.
